Information about protecting your password

Safeguard Your Password

FXCM is committed to ensuring the security of all our customers.
With that goal in mind we offer 128-bit Secure Socket Layer password encryption, in conjunction with other security features built into our interface.

At the same time, the following tips would also help augment the inbuilt system security.

Safeguard Your Password. Most people will want to write the password on a piece of paper and place it right next to their computer or share their password with family or friends. Or worse, they will stick the password and username on their monitor. If you need to write it down, do so but shred it immediately after you are able to log in successfully.

Change Your Password Often. You may change your password using the interface provided on the FX Trading Station by going to System > Change Password. It would therefore be prudent to regularly update your password to avoid a redundant, standard password being compromised.

Use a Strong Password. Passwords should be selected in a format that would not easily be compromised. Passwords must be at least 8 characters long, with at least one upper case letter, at least one lower case letter, and at least one number.

How Can I Avoid Creating a Bad Password?
Avoid passwords that would be easy for anyone to guess, such as:

  • Don't use any information pertaining to you: "your name", "phone number" or "social security number."
  • Don't use all numbers or "123456."
  • Don't use all letters or "abcdefg."
  • Don't use names of spouses, children, or pets.
  • Don't use any word that can be found in the dictionary.
  • Don't use your username as your password.
  • Diligence and Alacrity of Action. If you suspect that your password has been compromised, or that someone is trying to breach your account security, please contact us immediately so that we may also take the appropriate steps at our end to prevent any unauthorized access to your account. You may contact us via telephone at +44 207 398 4050, or email us at admin@fxcm.co.uk.

Password protection: The Trader is obligated to keep passwords secret and to ensure that third parties do not obtain access to the trading facilities. The Trader will be liable to FXCM for trades executed by means of the Trader's password even if such use may be wrongful.

Important Notice: In accordance with our regulations, we are unable to accept cash payments directly into our bank account. All fundings must be transferred electronically to us from an account in your name. FXCM cannot accept any payment via a third party. We can neither guarantee the receipt, nor the return of such payments.

Cash and cash equivalents cannot be accepted as we are unable to verify the origin of these funds. They will be returned upon receipt.
What are the fees for depositing funds?
Neither HSBC nor FXCM charge fees for incoming deposits. We recommend you contact your bank regarding any fees they or their associated intermediary banks may charge.
How long will it take for funds to appear in my trading account?
Wire transfers, official cheques, and card deposits are usually credited within 1 business day of receipt. Personal cheques are generally credited within 5 business days of receipt.
How can I send funds in a currency not listed on your website?
FXCM has funding instructions for multiple currencies. If you wire funds in a currency other than the denomination of that bank account, the bank will automatically convert it to the denominated currency at an exchange rate specified by them, which may not necessarily be favorable.

For a complete list of wire instructions, please click here.
What is considered a "third party" deposit?
Deposits received from an account held by someone other than the trading account holder constitutes a third party deposit. This also applies to corporate funds received for an individual account and similar scenarios.
Does FXCM accept third party deposits?
No. FXCM cannot accept any payments via a third party. We can neither guarantee the receipt nor the return of such payments.
I would like to send funds using a different method other than the options you provided. How can I do this?
The deposit choices FXCM offers have been selected to provide the most convenient and reliable options to fund your account. Any method other than those listed is not recommended and could prevent or cause delays in FXCM crediting the funds to your account.
Can I send funds through an exchange house?
FXCM cannot accept funds sent through exchange houses. These types of financial institutions are considered high-risk for money laundering. Any funds received via this method will be returned upon receipt.

A Cross-Border wire transfer is any wire transfer where the originating and beneficiary bank account are located in different jurisdictions.

I have an account with HSBC. Can I use their online transfer or bill payment service to fund my FXCM account?
FXCM does not recommend using an online transfer or bill payment service as a form of deposit due to the likelihood that the funds may arrive at FXCM with insufficient account details. If funds are received in this method, FXCM may request additional documentation to verify ownership of funds (such as a bank statement showing the transaction).
Can I visit my local HSBC branch and use an ATM or ask the teller to deposit funds directly into your account?
No. ATM or Bank Branch Deposits are typically received by FXCM without any information with regard to the account or individual from whom the payment originated. If such deposits are received, FXCM will require additional documents for proof of ownership or the funds will be returned. Please note that FXCM can neither guarantee the receipt, nor the return of such payments.
